Farm Opens it’s Fields for Funerals.

Following a number of enquiries, Mid-England Barrow has re-opened it’s rural funeral venue, 7 miles north of Banbury [within the Daventry District].

Owner Sarah said ‘due to the current situation, we’ve received calls from not only local people wanting to hold funerals in a safe place, but also from those much further afield, who want to be able to celebrate a life, whilst being assured everyone attending is protected.’

Co-owner Richard added, ‘at the farm we have a 2 acre area where people can safely mingle (at a 2m distance), with catering facilities, car parking and mains toilet. We have sought reassurance that the measures we have put in place are over and above the government guidelines.’

The farming couple recognise the importance for families to be able to bid farewell in whatever way they wish; the formal or informal rituals when the bereaved mourn is a vital part of the grieving process and the health and well-being of the bereaved, acknowledged by the fact that funerals have been permitted to take place, albeit in a different way, throughout the pandemic.

Farmer Richard added, ‘it’s a beautiful space, in the heart of the English countryside. Families can enjoy the fresh air, flora and fauna, a perfect way to say goodbyes after the trauma of loosing someone during lockdown.’

The farmers will also give families the reassurance that if they book an event which has to be cancelled due to restrictions, they can reschedule without any financial penalty.

Local celebrant Ruth Jewell, commented ‘shelter is available, along with the necessary handsanitising and washing facilities, risk assessments, and plenty of space, we all feel very secure. Richard and Sarah always go out of their way to accommodate families, and are happy to discuss requirements with celebrants, Funeral Directors, or directly with families. They even allow each event half a day, so there’s no time pressures.’
