Willoughby’s third successive home league game saw them come undone by Northants Cricket League Division 6 leaders Sun Hardingtone who completed a league double over the hosts by virtue of a comfortable 54 run success.
Batting first, the visitors made 201 for 5 off their allotted 45 overs with the mid-order trio of Alex Piper (69 not out), Harry Rowe (39) and Harry Middleton (29) proving the main stay of their innings. Mark Fell and Callum Hanks taking two wickets apiece for Willoughby.
In reply, the hosts never looked likely to chase down the target with three of the top four batsmen only making single figures. Ashley Rayner in at six made 64 not out but with only opener Hassan Nawaz and Fell with 19 and 12 respectively the only others to make it into double figures with the bat, the visitors coasted to victory and securing promotion in the process. Rowe’s 2 for 26 along with Richard West taking 2 for 21 and Jonny Grove 2 for 58 doing the mainstay of the damage with the ball.

Willoughby’s Saturday 2nds had a more comfortable time of things in Division 12, winning away at Bugbrooke IIIs to maintain their hold on second spot.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat, the visitors recovered from the early loss of Matt Cartridge as James Andrews promoted to open was joined with Martin Nichols who successfully negotiated the opening bowling before Andrews departed for 28 with 52 on the board. Ambrose Deery (79*) joined Nichols and set about upping the run rate through the middle overs and produced a 93 run partnership before Nichols was dismissed for 59. 143 for 3 off 29 overs. Latecomer Thornton joined Deery and demolished the attack to all places and put on a partnership of 92 from in only 10 overs. Willoughby eventually finishing on a good 253 for 4 with Ambrose Deery 79*. Malone 2 for 33 the pick of the bowling.
After the interval Archie McMillan 3 for 32 finally had some reward for some fine bowling spells during the season, with Ryan Lines (1 for 34) opening the attack. The artificial was a very good surface to bat on and any full or short balls were punished. The only real resistance came from a good knock from Chalmers who was eventually bowled for 57 by Cartridge who finished with figures of 3 for 22 cleaning up the tail. Bugbrooke finishing on 161 all out off 34 overs.
