- Daventry News - Daventry Autoworld to Close
After over 35 years of being the go-to place on the High Street for car parts and accessories, the Daventry branch of Autoworld will be closing down this month.
Chris Bailey, 43, one of the members of staff at the shop, explained: “The main problem we have is that we struggle with parking, in regards to our delivery service; sometimes we spend half an hour just trying to find a free parking space.”
The situation is made even more difficult when the High Street has to be closed off for the local market twice a week.
“There’s been some days when we’ve been at risk of receiving parking fines,” said Chris. “And I’ve had to park three car parks away to lug 15 boxes to our shop.”
Neil Kemp, 66, the managing director at Autoworld said when the company had tried to request a parking permit from the DDC, “no one seemed particularly interested. We tried renting a market stall on the High Street, as well, so we could park the van outside the shop – they said ‘no.’ It’s just become a constant battle that we don’t need.”
Mr. Kemp would like to reassure all local customers that their company will not be abandoning their service to the area. “We are going to continue to deliver to Daventry four times a day from our Northampton depot,” he said. “It’s not a step backwards; it’s making us more efficient, in a way. We have a new website, which is currently in the process of being built, where you’ll be able to order items and have them delivered. If Argos, Waitrose, Amazon and the likes of them can do it – we can too. Just give us a ring and we can drop whatever you request to your house or to your office.”
The shop will close on Saturday 23rd March 2019.
