A Daventry charity that supports those affected by dementia has received a £1,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in the town.

Demcafe is a support group in a café setting in Daventry run on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month by experienced volunteers who have all been affected in some way by dementia. The charity aims to provide a safe environment to support carers and facilitate activity and stimulation for those experiencing memory problems. Demcafe provides a mix of games, quizzes and reminiscing sessions, but most importantly, a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

The donation will go towards a trip to the pantomime for the group and musical entertainment for the support group meetings.

Commenting on the donation, Vivek Khanka, Site Leader at Amazon in Daventry, said:

“Demcafe provides incredible support to people in our community who are affected by dementia and we are pleased to support the charity’s important work with this donation.”

Sonya Richardson, who nominated Demcafe for donation, said:

“Demcafe is a great charity and one close to my heart, so I’m pleased Amazon could support it with this donation.”

Ronald Hunt, Treasurer for Demcafe, added:

“On behalf of everyone at Demcafe, I want to say thank you to Sonya and the team from Amazon. Donations like this allow us to continue helping those in the community who need us most.”

Demcafe received the donation as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during COVID-19.

Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic breakfast and delivering more than four million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
