FEATURE SERIES: Back on it for the final stretch– Better Health and Fitness with Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre Rugby

If the previous week’s attempts at keeping up my fitness momentum were hit by a bout of lethargy then this past week has certainly made up for things.

The penultimate week of this 12 week fitness and health campaign with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre in Rugby was one of the more productive so far. And it made up for any shortfall from the seven days before.

Four gym sessions, and two with 40 minute swim sessions also added on straight after too (and two further swim sessions on my ‘days off’ from the gym). So not bad at all.

Whilst my gym sessions have tended to follow a certain routine and path in the last few weeks (normally strength equipment to cardio, and back), they have been topped off by the use of the spin bikes. Now I have to say at this point from the initial apprehension of getting on and using these machines, I do actually enjoy them. Having the whole cardio studio to yourself and gazing out across the fields with headphones on the go does perhaps help, but the length of time I continue to spend on them has gradually increased each time.  And the benefits, well I’m certainly feeling them.

In many ways I am doing my own cycle class per se, given that the times of Russell’s group cycle classes are now that conducive to my schedule at the moment (a return to 5-a-side football has impacted that idea). And I have to say whilst my fitness levels have improved, looking at one of the classes in action I still don’t think I’m quite there, ready and prepared for one of those sessions. Not yet anyway. Maybe in time.

  • As we are approaching the end of this fitness campaign, Alexandra – my initial contact at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre in Rugby – asked me if I would put together an article for their and Better’s website with an overview of my overall progress so far.   Why not?  I am a writer after all, as you have probably and hopefully established over the last few months.
