A fundraising target of £200 was smashed by supporters in the village of Yelvertoft this weekend where the first ever pumpkin festival was held.

Just shy of 40 Halloween themed displays were put together for visitors to explore and enjoy before they were asked to cast a vote for their favourite.

The wet weather didn’t dampen spirits as hundreds rallied round spotting all the spooky surprises along route. Over £600 has been raised for Yelvertoft Pre school following many generous donations flooding in.

Organiser and father of three, Jason Adams, was bowled over with the level of support received during such uncertain times. Jason commented that ‘We are so grateful to everyone in Yelvertoft for coming together and constructing such creative masterpieces for everyone to enjoy’. ‘It has been such a difficult year for everyone and organising the pumpkin festival has created a sense of community, where we can all enjoy ourselves at a safe distance, lifting spirits, whilst raising funds for charity’. ‘The funds raised will help provide resources and equipment, including a gigantic set of weighing scales, for the children to explore at Yelvertoft Pre-school.

The results were as follows:

In 3rd Place was…..
No.30 – Glebe Farm’s “Fright Farm“

2nd Place…..
No.16 – Megan Davies’ “Ted’s Locked in Pumpkin Patch”

And finally, the very first winners of Yelvertoft’s new Annual Halloween Pumpkin festival…….

1st Place goes to……
No.18 – Orchard Farm’s “Spooky Surprise” created by Andrew and Milly Fyfe. All the pumpkins, squashes and gourds were homegrown and all spectators were thoroughly impressed with the display.

As well as the above winners, as voted by spectators, the judges commended entry went to…

No.35 – “Alarna’s Little Pumpkin Patch”

The committee are grateful to B & A Dairies for their sponsorship towards the event as well as several local businesses who donated prizes for the winning entries.
