Football: Borough Ladies complete local derby double over Town

Rugby Borough Ladies completed a local derby double over their Rugby Town counterparts on Sunday with a fine 3-1 win at Kilsby Lane.

Another close tussle was in store after the two side’s previous meeting last month and so it proved with the game once again in the balance right up until the closing minutes.

The first half consisted of plenty of chances for Borough who enjoyed having the majority of possession so it was perhaps no surprise when they grabbed the lead through Em Davies who scored in the top corner after assistance by Bailey Wiggett.

Borough were on top now but were unable to convert any chances and they were made to pay with Town broke through on goal and scored to bring the sides level.

However before half time the home side were in front once again, this time from a corner by Sydney Lowe, Beth Fesel was able to hit the ball home to make it 2-1 at the break.

The second half was a very close half with Borough defending well to keep out everything that Town threw at them.

Borough had a few chances of their own, Danielle Statham converting her first goal for the club only for it to be ruled offside.

That proved to be a turning point for Borough who then kept attacking and their efforts were rewarded three minutes from time when Michelle Oldfield broke through the defence and slotted home the third for Borough.

Another great performance from Borough reaped its rewards with Bailey Wiggett being named Player of the Match and Em Davies getting Supporter’s Player of the Match.
