Football: Chater hat-trick steers Rugby Borough to bring up magnificent seven from seven

A hat-trick from Ollie Chater earned Rugby Borough a comfortable Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division three points as they beat Magna 73 4-0 at Kilsby Lane to make it seven straight wins.

On a very chilly Monday evening Borough continued their recent good form in the Leicestershire Senior League  Premier Division thanks to a dominant display against their South Leicestershire opponents.

Making his first start of the season was Olly Chater with Alex Webb on the bench. Captain Tommy Glasscoe and Nic Whittam were still missing and Halim Halim also made his first start for the Borough after a long injury.

With a healthy crowd watching Borough made a great start dominating the early play. Dale Linton back from suspension was keen to impress and did so with a surging run down the right, beating two players and crossing for Chater to head back to the on rushing King who fired well over. Linton again caused problems down the right with the keeper making a good save from a vicious shot. From the corner Jamie Tank rose but did not catch the ball right and it flew over the bar.

On 25 minutes Borough did finally make the breakthrough a neat ball from Whiteside to Chater who chipped the ball over the keeper.

Magna now had to come out and play and to their credit they did by taking the game to the hosts but 10 minutes before the break Borough got their second. Chater cut in from the left before swerving the ball around the defender and into the corner of the net for his and Borough’s second goal of the night.

Right on half time it was nearly three with Harris the provider for Whiteside who couldn’t quite manage to fool the onrushing keeper who made the save

The second half proved to be much the same as Borough dominated play. But it was Magna with their best spell in the game who had the early chances Josh Hughes making a couple of saves and Castleton blocking a pile driver from the Magna frontman.

But it was Borough whose neat play got it rewards and their third soon after, Linton combining with Halim who chipped the ball over the keeper to effectively seal the points

They could even afford the luxury of Linton blasted a penalty over the bar after he was tripped in the area, this before right on full-time Borough got their fourth with Chater hat trick tapping in after some good work by Alex Webb

It means Borough remain unbeaten with seven wins out of seven ahead of this Saturday’s league fixture when they welcome Highfield Rangers to Kilsby Lane with a 3:00pm kick-off. Entrance is free to all spectators
