- Rugby Area Sport - Football: First half Solihull blitz sends Borough Ladies to defeat
Rugby Borough Ladies were on the wrong end of a first half goal blitz as they suffered a heavy defeat away at Solihull Sporting.
The visitors went into the game full of confidence from the previous week’s 1-0 win away at Cookley and with a full squad of 16 players to choose from.
However, it was always going to be a struggle for them against top of the league Solihull who have been scoring for fun every week, a pattern which Borough were also sadly on the end of.
They kept the score goalless until the 20th minute until Solihull broke the deadlock and then the floodgates opened as the hosts managed to score a further six goals before break.
Half time could not have come soon enough with a chance to re-group, and a team talk with a change of tactics for the second half paid off. Borough did concede a further two goals but did get two goals back as well. Their first came from a penalty won by Chloe Skipworth and converted by Michelle Oldfield before Tammi Davies scored from a free kick on the edge of the box.
Borough deserved their two goals and were unlucky not to get a third when Chloe Maxwell hit the crossbar in a much better second half performance than the 9-2 final score suggests.
Sam Smyth claimed the Player of the Match award, with Beth Daly earning the nomination from the opposition
* Next game is home to Leamington Lions in the League Cup Quarter-Finals on Sunday at Kilsby Lane.
