On Thursday 17th March 2019m Daventry Mayor, Cllr Lynn Jones, attended the Purple4Polio Tea Party hosted by DanetreRotary Club.
Purple4Polio is an initiative launched by Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland to raise funds and awareness for the efforts to eradicate polio across the world and to promote the global campaign, End Polio Now. When a child receives their life saving polio drops on mass polio immunisation days, in many countries their little finger is painted with a purple dye so it is clear that they have received their life saving vaccine.
This is the third year that Danetre Rotary Club has hosted their ‘Tea Party’ and this year saw over 100 people attendedhelping to raise £1,181.96.
Paul Blackwell, Chairman for Danetre Rotary Club, said, “This was a tremendous outcome and a fantastic result for ‘Purple4Polio’. This will provide the Polio Vaccination to around 8,500 children worldwide. Thank you to everyone who came and helped us raise, not only awareness, but funds.”
Cllr Lynn Jones said of the event, “It was wonderful to have been invited to such a worthy cause and to help raise money for such a good cause.”
