Free Science event returns to Daventry Museum
Daventry Museum’s annual science event returns on Saturday 7thMarch from 10am to 4pm with a celebration of ‘Diverse Daventry’.
This free and award-winning event coincides with British Science Week (BSW) from 6 – 15th March 2019, a national celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
Visitors will be able to take part in fun activities and investigatethe science behind ‘Our Diverse Planet’ the BSW theme for 2020. ‘Diverse Daventry’ will be combined with the theme of our current Battle of Naseby exhibition, which will also be open to view. Along with activities inside the museum such as calligraphy, morse code message sending, word art and yarn spinning, there will be creative science activities outside too, like felt making, a nature treasure hunt and much more so make sure you’re dressed for the weather!
There will be an activity pack for young visitors to complete, to be in with a chance of winning a prize. The quiz is designed for children to explore the museum and take part in the activities, in order to find answers to the questions.
For our Diverse Daventry Word Art, we are calling on people who speak a language in addition to English to translate all or some of these words; ‘Friend’, ‘Community’, ‘Neighbour’, ‘Culture’,‘Diversity’ and ‘Home’. Visitors can help to decorate this artworkwhich will then be displayed in the museum entrance the following few weeks. To take part, email your translations to museum@daventrytowncouncil.org.uk
Very excitingly, reenactors from The Sealed Knot will be putting our younger visitors through their paces at Pike Drills taking place on the steps of The Holy Cross Church! The church will be open to visitors and will be providing refreshments. Directly outside the museum will be chefs from Daventry cooking up dishes from a diverse range of cultures that are now made regularly for diners in the town.
There’s something for everyone to enjoy, booking is not necessary and timings for the pike drill, chef appearances, plusupdates will be posted regularly on social media.
