Tickets for this powerful, vibrant and spellbinding musical adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s classic tale are now on sale for performances on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 June 2022 starting at 7pm.
Talented young actors and musicians from across the UK starred in this musical at Theatre Royal Winchester in August 2017. As testament to its brilliance, it was chosen to run 8 performances in April 2018 at The Other Palace in London’s West End.
Local resident Ollie Wheeler performed and sang in the show; reflecting back he says “Being on stage in the West End was an amazing and surreal experience for me that I’ll never forget”.
Now in his final year studying the University of Arts London (UAL) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts at Rugby College, he and his fellow students are pulling all the stops out to put on this incredible show and showcase their talent.
Final year students put forward a musical of their choice for their FMP; Final Major Production. Out of 5 proposals submitted, Ollie Wheeler’s pitch for Tess of the D’Urbervilles was chosen by tutors and students.
“When I set my heart on something I give it my all. I started preparations last summer by contacting Jon Bromwich, Executive Producer at British Youth Musical Theatre (BYMT) to ask permission to put on the show.
It’s important when putting on any show that you have the rights toreproduce something, and thankfully BYMT, Gerry Flanagan, Director and Pippa Cleary, song writer allowed me to go ahead and kindly provided me with the full script, backing tracks and lyrics. I can’t thank them all enough”.
Hayley Glover, Lecturer & Course Leader said “This is a huge project for the final year students because it’s a graded aspect of their course. They’re responsible for every aspect of putting the production together from directing, choregraphing, sound and lighting, costumeand set design, promotion as well as rehearsing tirelessly to perform in the show itself”.
Tickets cost £7.50 for adults and £5 for concessions. Prebook your tickets now and pay cash on the door on the night by emailing Hayley Glover at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org All proceeds are reinvested into putting on future shows produced by the college.
