- Rugby News - Rugby Debenhams Is Not Reopening After Lockdown
Administrators were called in to Debenhams for the second time in April 2020 citing the Covid-19 lockdown as the reason. It was believed that the Rugby branch was going to reopen once the crisis was over, however staff were informed yesterday (May 14th) that this would not be happening.
Rugby is joining the long list of several Debenhams stores across the UK that have closed permanently with job losses numbering in the hundreds.
Rugby staff are understandably deeply upset by the sudden news that they do not have a job to come back to once the lockdown is lifted.
Debenhams can confirm that its store in Rugby will not be reopening as we were unable to agree appropriate terms with the landlord of the building. This is in no way a reflection on the commitment and professionalism of our colleagues which has been exemplary, and we will work with them to support them through this process.
