On Saturday 9th March Daventry Museum held its 4th annual science event, coinciding with British Science Week, (BSW), a national event celebrating the best of British science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
This free event is proving more popular with this year attracting over 260 visitors, compared to 150 odd visitors last year.
Visitors took part in the museum’s ‘A Journey into Science’ activity pack, which encouraged children to explore and take part in the activities, in order to find answers to the questions. There were two prizes up for grabs for those who successfully completed the answers and 2 lucky winners were chosen at random by the Mayor of Daventry, Cllr Lynn Jones.
Ananra won the Tim Peake book, pictured here with Cllr Lynn Jones, and Anara’s mother and brother, who also successfully completed the quiz questions.
The ‘Matilda’s How to be a Genius’ book and certificate is to be presented to Sam, at our next Saturday open day on Saturday 6th April.
Hands-on activities on the day included identifying wriggly creatures under a stereoscope, exploring the human brain and memory through a memory game and understanding how friction and kinetic energy works by testing wind-up cars.
There were also messy experiments such as making edible marshmallow slime, creating artwork inspired by the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and balloon chemistry demos.
If you were unable to attend this year’s science event or are looking forward to the next one then make sure to make a note in your diaries for Saturday 7th March 2020, when the museum will be holding another themed science event!
