Daventry’s Place in the Conflict a collaboration with The Naseby Battlefield Project was receiving huge visitor numbers, with people making journeys across the country to see it. Many items in the exhibition were on display for the very first time from lenders who were the first to dig the battlefield site for archaeology.
Exhibits available to view in the virtual tour include Naseby relics, original armour and swords, finds from the battlefield site such as a dice and a button adorned with a portrait of the Kings head, plus contemporary paintings of soldiers and views of the battle itself. The tour also allows visitors to view items from the museum’s own collection, from the roman mosaic and civic regalia to the ever-popular Daventry shop scene. By clicking on a circular label, visitors open up information and photos about the items, they might be taken to an interactive explorers page to view the town’s historic Charters which date back to before the Civil War, or to the Battle of Naseby website and photos of the battle site itself. Labels are being added every week as volunteers and the Museum Officer beaver away in the background.
