Daventry High Street has made it to the finals of the ‘Rising Star’ category in the Great British High Street Awards sponsored by Visa.
The application to the awards was Spearheaded by Discover Daventry and the Daventry Retail Forum.
‘Keep Daventry Weird!’ The motto of this English town is a love letter to the independent retailers, festivals and events it’s committed to expanding. And the ‘Daventry Retail Forum’ (an alliance of businesses) is keen to spread the word. Building a sense of community pride is at the heart of the initiatives. Highlighting local attractions, including stately homes and award-winning country parks, showcases Daventry as a green centre of Britain. It’s also rapidly becoming a festival town, in the last two years, Daventry has hosted a Food Festival, Motorcycle Festival, Women’s Cycle Tour, two treasure hunts, a St George’s Day Parade and much more.
Community programmes driven by retailers include a homeless support program, a free refill water scheme, and a ‘ ‘Nappies & Natter’ initiative. Hanging floral baskets, upgraded shop fronts, electric car charging points and a huge cycle path network only add to the retail experience. And the investment continues with a new £12.3 million town centre cinema complex now underway.
