- Daventry News - Warning Over Upside Down Sheep!
With temperatures hitting 16 degrees celcius across the district this week, people are being encouraged to keep a lookout for Upside down Sheep.
No – this is not some kind of new, crazy pheonomenon – it is a situation with potentially life-threatening concequences for the sheep.
If you happen to come across a sheep lying on its back with its legs up it is in a situation known as ‘Cast’.
If you feel confident to do so and you are not placing yourself in a position of danger, you should roll them back over as if they are left cast – they can die as it is near-impossible for them to breathe or indeed right themselves.
At this time of year it is especially important as many ewes will be in lamb.
If you come across this situation and are unable to assist, you are encouraged to notify the nearest farmer as soon as possible.
