The Weedon Weekender takes place next weekend Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th – with a special one-off Barn Dance on Friday evening 23rd August (Tickets in advance from Blades barber in Weedon). The Weekender is a community event organised by a group of Village Residents for the village – with many visitors coming from the wider local area too.
Hosted by registered charity Weedon Sports Association, proceeds from the event are available to village groups and the WSA website lists many groups who have been helped over the years.
The organisers have also been given grants and financial support from Weedon Bec Parish Council, Daventry District Council, Eurogarages, National Lottery Community Fund and many local businesses via advertising, sponsoring beer barrels and donations of prizes.The organisers are looking for books, CD’s or DVD’s for their stall at the Weekender and they can come and collect too.
There will be a Songs of Praise Thanksgiving Service at 11.00am on Sunday morning of the Weekender and all are invited. The organisers say, “It is a lovely opportunity to have a few minutes to relax, sing some hymns and think about what is going on around us all. Rev. Barbara would love to meet you. Don’t forget there will be refreshments following the service and entertainment from Upton Footlights.”
Other highlights include local lad Neal Astbury on stage on Sunday afternoon. “…definitely a performance not to be missed.”
The traditional Dog Show is hosted by Weedon Vets this year with all proceeds from entry being donated to Pawprints – a very worthy dog rescue charity. The organisers say a “HUGE thank you to the team at Weedon Vets for supporting the Weekender – we really appreciate you giving up your time at the weekend.”
Another new comer is Duncan who is really Chuffed Chuffed to be coming along with his miniature steam train to the Weekender. He is planning a circular route available for rides. Toot Toot!

Real Ale and Ciders Music Festival – free entry (but we do have a donation bucket)
Lots of live music throughout the day into evening
Circus themed attractions Saturday afternoon
Bouncy Castle
Lots of stalls
Outdoor church service Sunday morning –
Fun Dog Show Sunday afternoon
Bingo
Duck Race
And the famous WSA BBQ
